One of my Favorite Songs

This is my favorite Christian song. I'm kind like the person in the first verse, and that may be why I like it. Ignore the suckish video, just listen to the song.

Hey- I like it. If you don't like it, that's your own buisness.

justin sometimes you just need to give your egotistical personality a rest.

while the lyrics are interesting, and i can agree how you can see yourself in the first verse, [which is great], you are right, i don't like this song, music, or really even genre.

that's my opinion.

i would also like to offer that if you're interested in some other musical options, even with the possibility of that music being "better", i'd be more than happy to offer you some suggestions... based on my personal opinions.

while i AM a very "egotistical" person [an adjective you surely picked up to use off of BP's comment RE: pastor mark on my blog, as you took this morning to surf through your blogroll], i stand by my above comments. everyone with an opinion does not have an "EGO" problem.

that genre of music is called "AC" or "adult contemporary", meaning that it mostly is targeted towards adults. i imagine that ben's [and J-dub's] parents -CONTEMPORARY ADULTS- really like Avalon along with others in that genre: MWS, SCC, Mercy Me, etc. and because of parent's cultural influences on the house, this has become THE accepted and favored musical genre of the family. so, in essence, you have been "conditioned" to like this song/music. which is OK.

however, as your youth pastor, i would like to help to broaden your musical horizons with GOD HONORING music that is TARGETED towards your age demographic. by doing this, i hope that you would be able to [in addition to your AC-favorites] grab onto songs that you can identify with, that will help to shape your faith, that will help to carry you through tough times and give you words to sing and celebrate with during the good times. however, i would hope that these would be songs that would land closer to your evolving preference scale. ie. when you're in HS or college and everyone else is listening to different music, that you wouldn't feel so isolated and alone, having no exposure to, or negative exposure to other genres. i don't refer to other "messages", just other genres of music.

so in this, i hope to equip you for the marathon of life so that your faith can become and remain your own as you navigate through changing cultural preferences.

so really "getting you better music" is more about wanting to equip you in your pursuit of jesus than it is me just making a comment out of my "egotistical personality". which was a sharp comment, but i must consider the source.

any questions?

I don't like the musical genre, but I like the words to it.
